I have mountain biked on the Glade Run trails. It’s spectacular country–would simply hate to see what has becomer of it. Please note (and click on) the 2/28 update at the end of Patterson’s blog entry, regarding an off-road race: “The proposed 986-mile course runs on backcountry roads, small dirt trails, and desert washes on Bureau land from Lathrop Wells to Dayton, Nevada. The course itself will have significant impacts on the desert and the plants and animals found there, but those impacts will be compounded many times by the support crews, spectators, and media following the race. ” MARCH 6th COMMENT DEADLINE!

I added a personal paragraph to the form note. At least an EIS is required. In 1983, the Barstow to Vegas motorcycle race required an EIS and it appears to be less damaging than this event. Add the fact that there are buggies and trucks in this event and these guys shortcut at every opportunity. I do not see any mitigating measures that should allow this race to proceed on a mere EA.
