Beaverhead Forest Plan revision

This southwest Montana national forest is the largest in Montana, with many mountain ranges, splendid backcountry and scenic frontcountry as well. There are many species of wildlife. I could go on, but the important point is that the comment period on the new forest plan has been extended to the end of April.

Not only has there been controversy from off-road vehicle users, various conservation organizations have had differing perspectives.

Hoping folks will comment, here is some information from 3 conservation sources and the Forest Service. Please add more links as you wish in the comments.

Idaho Fish and Game News Release. Idaho takes over wolf management

Idaho Takes Over Wolf Management
News Release. Idaho Fish and Game
March 31, 2008

Friday, March 28, Idaho took over management of gray wolves throughout the state.

Wolves north and south of Interstate 90 now will be managed as big game animals. But federal officials still play a part in wolf depredation issues.

“We are excited as managers to assume their management,” said Cal Groen, director of Idaho Fish and Game. “The Commission and I thank staff, the Office of Species Conservation, the Nez Perce Tribe, and the many others who helped in this recovery effort.”

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s final rule removing wolves from the endangered species list includes wolves of the Northern Rocky Mountains in Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and parts of Washington, Oregon and Utah.

Idaho Fish and Game investigating shooting of two wolves in eastern Idaho

I wonder if this falls under Idaho’s new law that let’s people with animals shoot wolves if the wolves seem to be thinking bad thoughts about their livestock? It’s very irritating to me because there are just a handful of wolves in Eastern Idaho.

I made a quick list of people to contact for Yellowstone.net and then thought I’d add this here too! ~ Vicky

Send letters, make calls, etc about the Wyoming Wolf Killings!

It is very easy to see Yellowstone and avoid spending money or giving tax money $ to Wyoming. Don’t buy any gas in Wyoming or Yellowstone. Fill up with gas everyday in Montana or Idaho.

Lodging in the park creates tax money for Wyoming. Consider lodging outside of YNP. Let Xanterra know why you change your reservations. There is lodging in Montana in the gateway towns of West Yellowstone, Gardiner, Jardine, Silver Gate, and Cooke City.

Buy all trinkets, t-shirts and such in Montana gateway towns.
It will save you money (usually same items but are less expensive than in the park and in towns with resort tax- it’s less than WY tax).
